Editing Services

I can edit a wide variety of publications and various file types.  I will review either electronic or hard-copy documents as required by your situation.  I am equally comfortable reviewing full manuscripts or brief documents.  I provide three levels of editing services.  You choose how in-depth you want me to go in reviewing your document.  Essentially, my services are customizable to your needs!

What documents can I edit?

I will edit just about anything you can write, including (but not limited to) the following documents:
  • Books (fiction, non-fiction)
  • Textbooks
  • Journals
  • Articles
  • Training manuals
  • Advertising, direct mail/e-mail
  • Websites
  • Company reports
  • School papers
  • PowerPoint presentations
  • Brochures
  • Resumes and cover letters
  • Surveys/evaluations
  • Grant proposals

If I feel uncomfortable with my ability to edit an extremely technical or specialized document, I will inform you of that during our initial conversation.

I have worked extensively with documents on the topics of: Literature, Education, Associations/Association Management, Mortgage/finance, Healthcare/psychology, Regulatory research quality assurance.

I am proficient in a number of common software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint; Adobe Acrobat Professional, InDesign, PageMaker and Photoshop; and Macromedia Dreamweaver.  I use a Windows operating system, and I have access to all of the above-mentioned programs.

What levels of editing are available?

I offer three levels of editing services to meet your needs:

  • Proofreading:  This entails correction of spelling, grammar and punctuation errors.  It takes the least amount of time and should be selected when you are reasonably certain you are happy with the content and style of your work but are looking for a  professional polish.  I frequently catch errors that spell check does not!

  •  Basic Copyediting:  This entails basic proofreading plus a light review of sentence, paragraph and document structure, word choice, consistency and other essential elements of composition.  This option should be selected when you need a little bit of input on how to construct your document so that it reads well and consistently.

  • Extensive Copyediting:  This is very much like it sounds - a major overhaul of your composition.  I will review for all of the basic elements, of course, but I will also make suggestions to improve the style, tone, structure and overall quality of the document.  This option should be selected when you sense your composition needs a major re-write, but you don't know exactly where to start.
